Roger – The Azena 1963
My auntie was working in the VIP lounge at Stansted Airport. Four scruffy-looking lads wandered in. She said, “Oi, you can’t come in here.” One of them said, “We’re waiting for somebody, we’ll just wait…
Fan Archive Beatles SheffieldFan Archive Beatles Sheffield (FABS) is a passion project collecting memories of The Beatles’ visits to Sheffield, and the stories, people and places connected to them.
What began as an archive of concert memories has grown into something much richer: a portrait of Sheffield in the 1960s, told by the people who were there.
Through these memories emerges a city of queueing fans, proud parents, sharp suits, bitter winter nights, chance encounters and teenage devotion.
From those inside the venues to those listening from outside, from family anecdotes to overlooked local connections, every contribution helps build a fuller picture not just of Beatlemania, but of Sheffield itself.
At its heart, this project is about preserving ordinary people’s memories and celebrating Sheffield’s place within an extraordinary cultural moment.
All contributions are gathered with care, fully credited, and will be permanently donated to Sheffield Archives so they can be preserved as part of the city’s cultural history.
An exhibition of Fan Archive Beatles Sheffield will take place at the Post Hall Gallery (Head Post Office) in Spring 2027, featuring stories, memorabilia and Sheffield’s many Beatles connections.
If you have a memory to share, however small, I would love to hear from you.
